Wedding Party Photo Booth: Tips for the Ultimate Experience

Updated: Jul 22

Photo booths at wedding parties are increasing in popularity and for good reason. They offer an inclusive form of entertainment that everyone can enjoy. Wedding party photo booth's let guests loosen up and have fun. Pictures that are captured are instantly printed, so everyone can take a memorable keepsake from the evening home. Those same photos are cherished for years to come. Recently, MIT Photo Booth provided its services at Paradise Banquet Hall located at 7601 Jane Street, Vaughan, Ontario, in the Queen Anne Room.

The event was wildly successful, and the team learned a lot in the process. We're going to share our learnings and answer some common questions couples ask before booking our photo booth services for their wedding party. Let's get started with the most common question:

Should I have a photo booth at my wedding party?

Most couples are excited about the idea of having a photo booth at their wedding. There's a ton of benefit but also some valid apprehension as some couples have had poor experiences in the past with other vendors. Im going to share two of the most common complaints I've heard couples share about their experiences with other photo booth companies.

While a photo booth is a fantastic idea, sometimes, the line ups are just too long. This is a common and valid grievance. Most of the time this is due to archaic printer technology. Some printers take a really long time to print the photo booth picture. This delays guests and contributes to long wait times, wait times that could have been easily avoided. Thankfully, MIT Photo Booth has invested in modern printing technology that produces your photo booth prints instantaneously (within 6-8 seconds to be exact). Having the ability to print photo booth pictures quickly ensures guests can take their photo, receive their picture and back to the party quickly. Hurray!

While some couples might have had a bad experience waiting in line for too long, others have complained about a poor experience with picture quality. There's a variety of factors that contribute to good quality photos, but the main factors is good lighting. If you ask any experienced photographer they'll tell you, great pictures are directly related to having the right lighting. Alternatively, bad picture quality is usually a result of poor lighting.

It took us a bit of time to get this one right, but the quality of our pictures improved dramatically once we invested in softbox lighting. Soft box lighting helps improve picture quality because the LED light is released through a diffusion layer, which means that it get's distributed on the photo subjects. It minimizes harsh shadows and generates a much better quality picture. The difference is impeccable.

How do I Encourage Wedding Guests to Use the Wedding Party Photo Booth?

The goal with any photo booth hire is attendee usage. While many factors may contribute to a successful photo booth deployment, one of the main goals is wedding guest usage. We want wedding guests to know about and use the photo booth throughout the evening. Here are four things you can do to maximize usage of the wedding party photo booth.

  1. Make sure your DJ or MC announces the photo booth at different times throughout the evening. You want them to share specific details like when the photo booth will be in operation (hours of service) and where exactly it will be located. The DJ/MC should encourage guests to take pictures with the each other and with the bride and groom.

  2. Location, Location, Location. The photo booth should be set up in a high-traffic area. For the wedding at Paradise Banquet Hall Queen Anne Room, we set up the photo booth in the lobby, beside the bar. Guests danced the night away, but were able to take breaks and come over to the photo booth to have their pictures taken. Guests in the Queen Anne room were able to see the photo booth and walk over when they wanted to take a break from dancing and have their photos taken.

  3. Customer experience matters, that why it's important to ensure the photo booth company you hire has friendly and welcoming staff. Photo booth attendants who are welcoming and friendly entice wedding guests to join in on the fun and enjoy the photo booth experience. Some wedding guests will need extra guidance, and properly trained photo booth attendants can support attendees as they go through the experience.

  4. Highlight the photo booth in your wedding program. Wedding programs usually display the name of the couple, names and titles of the wedding party and reception details. You can also include photo booth information in the wedding program too. Wedding guests will be reading the program, and it never hurts to share when and where they can get their pictures taken.

Take a proactive approach to photo booth usage at your wedding party. Work with the photo booth company you've hired to ensure wedding guests are aware of the photo booth and where/when they can use it.

Tips for making a memorable keepsake with wedding photo booth prints.

The pictures that your guests take at your wedding are highly valued. Photo booth picture prints are a novelty and so captures will be cherished for years to come. Your guests will likely post these pictures on their fridge or desk to admire. That's why it's important to put some thought behind the experience you want your guests to have and make it as memorable as possible. MIT Photo Booth offers the ability to send copies of the digital captures through text sharing, email sharing, Airdrop and QR-Code. You can also provide your guests with access to the virtual gallery so they can view all the photos from the evening.

3. Transform photo booth captures into a photo album. The value that you get from your photo booth vendor doesn't need to end at your wedding. Continue to enjoy the photos that were taken by creating a photo album. Photo albums are great because they are a natural conversation started and when placed in a common area, people will be naturally drawn towards it.
